Print making workshop - week 2

 This week we experimented with reductive mono-printing in the workshop. I tried my best to pay more attention to the colours I use within my prints, as well as their relationships with one another, and the impact they will have on the end outcome. 

Firstly, we began by using view finders to focus on chosen areas of our drawings from last week, and captured those through quick sketches. Then, we simplified those drawings, and cut them up into shapes, which would later become stencils. 




In the workshop, we had a variety of different inks, some opaque, and others transparent. I began by rolling out the inks I wanted to use onto lino, then I positioned my stencils onto them. Afterwards, I placed a piece of paper onto the line, and put it through the printing press. I repeated this process multiple times, to create many layers. I was also able to create some ghost prints using the left-over ink on the lino.




I found that the most successful prints I created were the ones which had the most layers. By carefully selecting the colours of ink and paper I wanted to use, I was able to create more effective and harmonious prints.
