Printmaking - week 1 (pt.1)
This week in the printmaking workshop we began with a mark making exercise. This exercise was to be done in black and white, in order to focus on the technique, rather than the colours. Firstly, we chose five words to describe ourselves. After picking mine: compassionate, caring, indecisive, obsessive/ over-thinker, and stubborn, I moved onto trying to portray those words through mark making. I used a variety of lines, shapes and patterns, as well as different types of paper (sugar paper, newsprint, tracing paper) and mediums (chalk, graphite, markers).
The second part of this exercise was starting to layer some of the papers that we used to create the marks on. This is where I used more tracing paper, and tried techniques such as ripping and scrunching, as well as creating more marks on the tracing paper, then layering that on my other pieces of mark-making.
