What is Pure O? - Some context for my project
Purely Obsessional OCD, also known as Pure O, is a subtype of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, where the sufferer experiences distressing intrusive thoughts, often of violent or sexual nature, but there is a lack of external signs of compulsions. While others with OCD might continually check taps and locks or shower in order to get rid of 'potential contamination' many times a day, someone with Pure O engages in mental rituals/ internal compulsions, which are not visible to others. Some examples of internal compulsions include:
- checking how you feel
- checking how you feel about an intrusive thoughts
- checking bodily sensations
- repeating phrases or numbers in your head
- checking if you still have a thought
