Bill Viola - Nantes Triptych (1992)
 

Bill Viola is a contemporary artist, who works mainly with sound and video/ moving image, making his work relevant to the work I am currently creating. This piece, "Nantes Triptych", particularly relates to my final outcome, as I am also looking into creating a triptych of videos. This piece has a significant juxtaposition within it; it consists of a video of a child being born, a man floating, as well as a man dying, which is representative of the three stages of life, and thus creates a clear 'time stamp' during those moments in a person's life. This is relevant to my final outcome, as I am also planning to create a triptych video piece, which will include three different stages. Viola's work was influential to me, due to its powerful visual. Although I do not want my piece to be as graphic as Viola's, I feel inspired by this piece to take the idea of three stages of a process and make something of my own with it in mind.
